Reliance Life is to Launch Biosimilar Drug in Europe
Recently, the Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Life Sciences announced to launch its biosimilar drug to stimulate red blood cell production in Europe within a year. However, it has completed all required testing.
About the launch ET writes, “Unlike the pharmaceutical market that is flooded with generic versions of drugs, the biosimilar market, or market for generic versions of biological medicines, is relatively untapped. The global market for biosimilars is estimated at over $19 billion, and like all new things, the industry expects to make significant profits in the initial years.”
Further the news portal writes, “In the recently-passed US Health Bill the data exclusivity period for biological drugs was extended to 12 years from seven earlier, which is seen as detrimental to development of biosimilars. Countries are sceptical to allow biosimilars because they contain living active ingredients and are relatively new, so regulators have less experience in testing and dealing with them.
While Europe has a policy that approves of biosimilars, Indian companies have found it hard to crack the code. Dr Reddy’s has been in talks with regulators to launch a biosimilar since 2006 and is still waiting. Biocon acquired a company in Germany in 2008 to reach the market. Some global players like Novartis, Hospira and Teva have a head-start because they are marketing some products in developed markets.”
About the company objectives with the Biosimilar drug in the Europe, economictimes.indiatimes.com, writes, “The company also hopes to enter regenerative therapies for acute kidney injuries and wound management, he said. However, the biggest concern with stem cells is that so far it is not scalable.
Therefore mass, ready to use solutions are not available. At present, the original cell has to be taken from the patient, grown and then used. This is a lengthy and expensive process.”
Reliance Life’s Biosimilar drug in the Europe is the biggest news just like H1N1 Swine Flu Virus Vaccination in India. Reliance Life tries to cover the European country with its new and effective drug product.

How to Deal Children Psychologically to Develop Their Health
There are few suggestions to the parents regarding how to deal with children psychologically so that they turn out to be stable personalities. These health awareness tips are from “From the Malik Radix Health Care”:
1. It is natural that parents can have differences or disharmony among themselves but they should not fight in front of the child as it leads to feeling of insecurity in the delicate mind of child…
2. Although punishment is required at times, but, it should be minimum and the best way to punish is to deprive the child from some privilege. Child will not learn from scolding, beating or ridiculing.
3. Parents should show a consistent behaviour, child should be given a clear and fixed instruction & then the parents should stick to these instructions.
4. Over protection should be avoided especially in the setting of joint family, because it leads to dependence. Over protected children often turnout to be introverts and might not be able to make friends and remain introvert through out the life.
5. Unrealistic expectations should be avoided. Every child can’t maintain first position in the class, must be remembered by the parents.
6. Parents should never shout or shriek at their children for small issues. Instead child should be taken in a separate room and told firmly about his misconduct and that he will not be allowed to cross the norms.
7. Children should not be criticized in an unhealthy manner and should not be compared to other children in unfavorable manners.
8. Parents should not impose beyond a certain limit their own value systems, inspiration and philosophy on the child. Child should be helped in finding his own way out.

Suggestions about Prevention of Accidents in Children
There are some suggestions about prevention of accidents in children for better health care. These suggestions are from “From the Malik Radix Health Care:”
Children at high accidents risk are likely to be relatively poorly supervised often have disorganized or stressed families and live in hazardous environment. Majority of accidents are preventable. About 1.8 lakh children under 15 years of age die in road accidents mainly by two wheelers.
Type of injuries in children:
Road traffic accidents
Drowning & near drowning
Poisoning
Burns
Bites and other injuries from animals
House hold injuries
Disasters
Prevention of roadside accidents:
Safety education must be given in schools and by parents.
School bus drivers, need to be specially trained for safe driving.
Children and teachers should be trained for first aid.
Children should be seated in rear seats and should learn the use of handles, bars and seat belts during travel.
Major Street should not be crossed alone until the child is 10 years of age.
Pedestrian skill training programs to be included in schools.
Prevention of house holds injuries:
Younger children often fall from bed while rolling. Care should be taken regarding that.
Younger children toys should be of stuffed variety rather than having pointed edges etc.
Younger child should never be left unattended at staircases, fire, height etc.

About 30 to 40% of burn patients are below 15 years of age.
Parents and care providers to be educated regarding prevention measures of burn injuries.
Install smoke detectors.
Prohibition of smoking reduces the incidence of burns.
Learn to use fire matches and lighters properly to prevent injuries.

Parents are advised to closely supervise children at every moment during swimming.
Educational training in addition at appropriate pool fencing can prevent 80% of drowning in many children.
Fences should completely isolate the pool from the house and yard.
Pools should be covered properly after swim time.
Parents should appreciate the risk of common house hold items like bath tubs, buckets, toilets and washing machine. They should be kept away from small children.
Prevention of poisoning:
Keep drugs, mosquito repellents, and rat killers in lock and key and at a height not approachable to small children.
If a child takes harmful substances immediately rush to doctor where he will do a stomach wash to remove the poison.
It is biggest work for parents to take care health after delivery of a child. Prevention of accidents is the care of life a child.
Care of Health after Delivery
One of the most important parts of health care is caring health of a new baby and mother after delivery. I want to share it “From the Malik Radix Health Care”:
Care after delivery, also called postnatal care, involves not only the care of the mother but also of the new born baby. The basic goal of this care, is to help the mother to come back to the normal pregnancy state, over a period of six weeks. I would like to discuss few of the normal complaints which might appear abnormal to the mother during this period.
During initial 3-4 days after delivery she can have reddish discharge which becomes lighter and lighter & finally disappears by two weeks. If the discharge has bad smell, or is associated with high fever doctor should be consulted.
Mild engorgement and pain in the breast is a normal finding. If you notice swelling, redness or any localized hardening in the breast, consult your doctor.
Although slightly increased emotional sensitivity, over concern and obsessions for the baby is a normal phenomenon, but if panic attacks, severe depression or abnormal behaviours are experienced by you then consult the specialist.
Vaginal area should be cleaned thoroughly with soap and water and kept dry, an antiseptic solution can be applied. Frank bleeding from the area after 3rd day should be taken seriously and the gynecologist should be consulted.
Any time after delivery if there is difficulty during urination or there is retention of urine the doctor should be consulted as urinary infections are very common after delivery.
Special attention should be given to nutrition of the mother. The diet should be rich in proteins and other nutrients.
Mother should continue taking iron and calcium preparations as she was taking during pregnancy, till the time she is feeding the baby. For initial one day soft diet is advised but from second day onwards you can resume to the normal high protein diet.
The mother becomes emotionally sensitive and is little over concerned about her baby. At this juncture of life she requires the social support from the family members and the husband. Most of these fears, insecurities and apprehensions are because of ignorance and they can be nicely handled by the both gynecologist and pediatrician.
An important aspect to the stressed is contraception. Although location offers some protection against conception but it should not be depended upon & proper contraceptive measure should be taken.
After one week of delivery post natal exercises should be started to tone up the muscles and get the body back to shape.
Very important aspect which is often ignored is proper advice on breast feeding for baby food, Mother should be encouraged to give only breast feeding and no top milk supplements for at least initial four to six months. There is no need to give water to the baby as breast milk has sufficient water for the new born for initial six months.
These are the suggestions of Doctor Renu Malik MD who is the senior Obstratecian & Gynecologist of Malik Radix Health Care.
